System already in use strengthens Ukraine’s response to Russian air attacks
Ukraine’s defense industry has revealed a new drone specifically designed to intercept Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles used by Russia in attacks on Ukrainian territory. The equipment was showcased in a video released by President Volodymyr Zelensky during the official visit of a Belgian delegation led by Prime Minister Alexander De Croo.
According to the developers, the drone is already in operation and has proven effective in neutralizing more than 20 enemy drones in the last two months alone. In addition, the model is capable of targeting smaller objects, such as reconnaissance drones used for surveillance.
Although technical details have not been disclosed, the creators stated that the drone reaches a maximum speed of 200 km/h and operates at altitudes of up to 5,000 meters. The initiative is part of Ukraine’s efforts to develop more affordable and efficient defense solutions, aiming to replace costly surface-to-air missiles in intercepting smaller threats.

The technological demonstration also strengthened ties with Belgium’s military industry, which has deepened its cooperation with Kyiv. In November 2024, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Ukraine and Thales Belgium, providing for the joint production of 70mm missiles. The partnership may evolve to include technology transfer and domestic manufacturing of FZ275 LGR missiles.
Earlier, the portal Militarnyi had already reported the introduction of new interceptor drones by Ukraine’s Defense Forces, signaling a continued modernization of the country’s military sector.
